GLOBAL HEALTH AND THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS |
In 2018, our fight against AIDS and other
pandemics took a dual approach. The first approach was, once again, to work on
Spain becoming a fundamental donor of the Global Fund in the fight against
AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, as our country was up to the year 2011, when
contributions came to an end. Despite the existence of full parliamentary
agreement, we continue without a commitment. But we're getting closer every
time. The second approach, the launch of the NADIE campaign in Latin America
and the Caribbean, brought to the fore the stigma and criminalisation suffered
by the populations most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS in this and other middle-income
regions whose countries are also suffering from the withdrawal of international
funding. If the funds continue to dwindle and the needs of these populations
are not covered we will never be able to end this pandemic.
